Description
Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia (7 February 2019) – This is the condition of the Arqam Baburrahman Mosque or Palu Floating Mosque after being hit by the tsunami on Kampung Lere Beach, Palu Bay, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, Thursday, February 7, 2019. The tsunami that hit the coastal area also hit the mosque which was once one of the tourist icons in Palu City. The 121 square meter mosque did not collapse, but because the tsunami preceded by the earthquake resulted in a decline in land on the beach up to 1.5 meters and also sank some of the mosque’s buildings. The bridge to the mosque that was built in 2011 was broken and shifted up to tens of meters, but could no longer be used. Many residents came to this place after the tsunami to see first hand the conditions and take photos. Although local residents intended to repair the mosque, the local government banned because the mosque was in the red zone of the tsunami disaster, which meant no construction could be done on it.
